I recently talked to my beautiful friend Summer Sawyer about some difficulties in her life and what she’s learned from them. We’ve been friends for at least fifteen years and I have fond memories of the old days, when we used to sit on my porch with a bunch of beer and talk endlessly about the good, the bad and the ugly. She’s my self-development buddy; we can always come up with positive possibilities when one of us is going through a tough time. She’s gone through some stuff that I wanted her to share because they can serve as great examples of what happens when you let go of expectations and accept what is.
A decade or so ago, she had her first baby with every intention of having another, until complications cut those chances almost in half…or so she thought. It was only when she let go of her expectations of what her family would look like, that something more came through; much more than she could have imagined. We talk about that and other lessons about acceptance and letting go, and show how these lessons can allow us to trust that everything will work out!
Summer Sawyer is a mom, wife, founder and creator of Ultrakini®, a one-of-a-kind versatile swimsuit that converts from a bikini into a tankini instantly. She has always been creative – owning an art gallery with her husband, making films and music, and developing cartoon characters for greeting cards, kid’s bedroom walls and embroideries – and now she has developed a swimsuit that will change the industry as we know it. Summer loves kitties, beer and anything related to the beach. When she’s not helping with homework, shopping for school supplies or applying bandaids to kneecaps, she’s probably tucked on a corner of the couch, ignoring her surroundings and reading a good book.

I’m a sucker for inspiring stories about people who overcome limitations (often self-imposed) and witness some amazing things as a result. I’m hoping to have many conversations with people who’ve stretched outside their comfort zones and will present them here so that they may inspire others.
If you or anyone you know has a personal story about the magic that happens after stepping outside a comfort zone, I’d love to have a conversation about it. Email me: dawn@dawngreaney.com
