Part two of my conversation with Twist & Shout owner Paul Epstein. In part one, he mentioned that his love for what he does has never waned. But at the start of part two, I point out that he has come full circle, starting with vinyl and ending with vinyl. But would he have been as excited about what he was doing if vinyl had NOT made such an impressive comeback? He admits things did get rocky and his interest in the store had waned, and even his personal taste in music was different during those years.
Between the great recession in 2008, the huge changes in the music industry which forever impacted the way music was sold, and several traumas and changes going on in his personal life, Paul certainly had the opportunity to close up shop. Things were incredibly difficult during those years. How did he persist? One significant decision made a life-changing difference.
He also talks about how belief, finding his inner voice and not being swayed by what television commercials are constantly jamming down our throats were huge components that helped him through the hardships.
