Karen Capaldi was about 8 years into working for Starbucks when she started to wonder what she was doing with her life. Soon after, she was reminded of an opportunity for an unpaid 6-month sabbatical that Startbucks offered to its employees of 10 years and made the decision to not only take it, but to use it for the adventure of a lifetime. She cashed in her stock, took a loan from her 401K and pursued her dreams of climbing Kilimanjaro. As if that wasn’t enough, some life changing opportunities came up in the process of the planning and the adventure became bigger than imagined. What happened as a result was truly life changing.
For more, check out the videos Karen made on her trip. The first is about her dream adventure and the second is a bit about the Dream Maker project she has proposed to Starbucks:
I’m a sucker for inspiring stories about people who overcome limitations (often self-imposed) and witness some amazing things as a result. I’m hoping to have many conversations with people who’ve stretched outside their comfort zones and will present them here so that they may inspire others.
If you or anyone you know has a personal story about the magic that happens after stepping outside a comfort zone, I’d love to have a conversation about it. Email me: dawn@dawngreaney.com
