My conversation with Jamie Paquin, world traveler, surfer and quest seeker:
I think many of us are in the habit of talking ourselves out of things more than we talk ourselves into things. I’ve always envied people who can make decisions and follow through without letting fear or doubt change their minds. Jamie Paquin is definitely of that ilk. From traveling the world with only a loose idea of the details, to pointing to an ad in the phone book and becoming a petsitter after moving from Colorado to California, Jamie has seen firsthand how much everything really does work out.
Jamie’s stories will inspire you to let go of your tightly held plans and get out there and start living. See for yourself just how often everything works out. Let go of your expectations and fears about uncertainty, and watch things line up for you. She might also inspire you to start achieving the items on your bucket list; she’s created a quest with her five year old daughter to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, doing a segment every year. By her calculations, it’ll take them 25 years! Check out her awesome slide show of their kickoff hike (below).
Jamie talks about all this, and gives us some tips on how to get outside our comfort zone. And as an exclamation point to this whole shebang, she mentioned to me a couple of times that after being a stay-at-home mom for several years it was time for her to get a job. She didn’t know what it would be, but knew she would need to start thinking about it. So literally, 2 days after our conversation, a job landed in her lap! A mom at her daughter’s preschool offered her a job as a surf camp manager! And to boot, she called Jamie later that night and asked if she’d also be a private surf instructor starting asap! So not only did a job land in her lap, but the PERFECT job for her landed in her lap!!!
Jamie Paquin is a world traveler, mother, surfer and a lifetime seeker of adventure. She resides in California with her husband and daughter.

I’m a sucker for inspiring stories about people who overcome limitations (often self-imposed) and witness some amazing things as a result. I’m hoping to have many conversations with people who’ve stretched outside their comfort zones and will present them here so that they may inspire others.
If you or anyone you know has a personal story about the magic that happens after stepping outside a comfort zone, I’d love to have a conversation about it. Email me: dawn@dawngreaney.com
