I have those dreaded Siberian Elm trees in my yard. A humongous one in the front, which I actually love because of the shade it provides in the summer. But it does get completely infested with nasty Elm Leaf Beetles every year, which is devastating to the tree so I’ve been getting it injected to prevent the damage. Every year my duplex neighbor offers to help with the cost of that and other things that don’t affect his property, and every year I say no worries (after all, the tree is nowhere near his half of the yard). After I saw this TED talk by musician Amanda Palmer about The Art of Asking, I said yes the next time my neighbor offered to help with the cost of the tree. And I don’t regret it for a minute!
