A few days ago, I held a Follow Your Bliss integrative workshop just for ladies here in Denver and it was fabulous. I’ve always loved the idea of using collaborative brainstorming to help figure out how to knock down obstacles or limitations and move closer to dreams. Each person got to share their dream or passion and the obstacle that keeps them from moving closer to it. What’s great about this format is that all participant get the benefit of being on both sides of the conversations. It’s great that they get to share their own dreams and receive help with getting around their obstacles, but it’s also incredibly inspiring to contribute to the brainstorming of someone else’s dream. We are hard wired to help others by sharing resources and creating connections; the amount of helpful suggestions, advice and resources given to each person was tremendous, creative and motivating. Everyone walked away with the inspiration and encouragement to follow what makes them happy.
Personally, I learned that most people share the same obstacles, no matter what their dreams are: mental limitations and lack of money both came up often in this past workshop. Most everyone has some sort of negative thinking going on, and seeing it in others in the group made us all feel human and reminded us to break out of our own limiting thinking. Money was a big obstacle for most of the group as well, but it was clear after the brainstorming that there are many things we can do to move us closer to our dreams without needing gobs of money. Breaking things down and doing them in smaller steps is helpful too. It made me wonder how much of a habitual script that is: “I don’t have the money and I need it to be happy.” If we want something badly enough we’ll make it work; especially if what we want will make our inner beings happy. If we keep moving towards our dreams, the money becomes a non-issue. The lesson is to never stop following our bliss!
