I’ve discovered that the biggest reason for me not accomplishing what I want is distraction. The noise from the world — the TV, the internet, my well-fed fears, the so-called experts, my ever-changing moods, etc — is so loud and confusing and constant.
I look back at the goals I’ve had and see that because there were so many different things I was interested in, I didn’t gain momentum on any one thing. So that made me incredibly susceptible to distraction.
I can be gung ho one day, mapping out what I need to do in order to gain a footing in one area. But the very next day, I somehow wake up poo-pooing the whole strategy. Or I read an “expert” online saying that’s not the way to go, THIS is the way to go. Or I somehow decided while sleeping that the thing that I want to accomplish is this not that. More often than not, I end up being completely stuck and feeling hopelessly stagnant.
How do we move forward when every day brings about different desires? It’s hard enough to maintain momentum on the one thing we know for sure we want. It’s even more difficult to narrow in on that one thing out of many that you want to accomplish.
Enter: Accountability Groups.
Imagine having the support of a few people who have no emotional connection to you. What if you could feel safe enough to lay out your situation? To narrow in on what you want and state your intentions.
Imagine a scenario where these people keep you on track, hold you accountable, share their perspectives about your situation and help keep you going until you accomplished what you wanted. And it’s not as hard as you imagined it to be!
What makes an accountability group so great is that everyone wants to see you succeed. No one judges because they’re in the hot seat too. There’s something amazing that happens when you verbalize your excuses and fears and then see somebody else express the same excuses and fears. It’s impossible to judge and it’s oddly comforting to know that we all have those in common.
Helping shine a light on another person’s gifts, talents and capabilities makes us more aware of our own gifts, talents and capabilities. There’s really nothing you can’t accomplish with a group of people who see the best in you, and who are there for you every step of the way. To be invested in other people’s accomplishments is truly a great gift that comes out of these groups. I’ve seen some amazing energy develop in groups that are invested in each other.
If you’re feeling stuck and want to start the new year off with focus and intention, join the next Accountability Group. If you commit before the end of the year (don’t give yourself too much time to talk yourself out of it!), it’s $70 per month for the four months (January-April, 2017). You don’t have to do this alone!
Once a month for four months, the group will meet and everyone will have a chance to talk about what they want, what they will do and receive suggestions and support. There will be honesty, integrity, authenticity, laughs, empathy and true connection.
What will happen is this: You’ll meet new people and will feel oddly free about sharing your wants, desires and fears. You’ll hear about their desires and will notice that their fears are not that different than yours. You’ll be surprised at how much you offer each person in the way of insight, resources, perspective and kindness. You’ll get the same in return. You’ll walk out of each monthly meeting with newfound inspiration and motivation. You’ll get additional one-on-one coaching that will keep you on track. At the end of the four months, you’ll not only celebrate your own accomplishments but those of each person in the group.
