It’s the time of year when we get distracted by turkeys, Christmas carols, cold weather and early darkness. And we know what’s coming next: the feeling that next year’s gonna be better. We’re excited to see this year end and we can’t help thinking that the new year will bring the motivation to be better, more successful, richer and happier.
Even though I’m not a believer in new year’s resolutions, I can easily get swept up in all those feelings. It’s nice to be hopeful about a new year. Starting fresh. Automatically inspired to improve. Convinced the last year was just a one-time fluke. But to think that the resolutions you list at the beginning of the year are going to stick by the end of the year is setting yourself up for failure. Life soon gets back to normal very early on in January and it’s near impossible to keep our motivations where they were just a week ago.
This is why I like to start my coaching groups after January. By then, people are mostly back to “normal,” which is to say that the disappointing realization of it being just another year has come and gone. People are ready to get real after that.
Group Coaching is a fantastic way to stay on track throughout the year. It’s a safe place where you can share your real intentions and get support and encouragement from other group members as you step outside your comfort zone and make great accomplishment throughout the year. There’s something motivating that happens as you support others in their journeys as well. And when you make your desires tangible by saying them out loud, the wheels automatically start moving as you create a plan that gets you where you want to be.
Don’t let 2016 sneak up on you. Let’s get serious about determining what you want to accomplish! Sign up for a coaching group and let’s make it happen! Or consider working with me one-on-one and start the year by getting unstuck! Get clear about what you want and what it will take to get it.
Check out the new Coaching Party idea too. Where you can host a group in your own home, for free!
