I really love this quote because it reminds me that I usually get what I ask for, but it’s not always in the form I expect it. And many years ago, this quote wouldn’t have affected me as much as it does now because of the word “God.” I’ve since been able to understand that God can be whatever you want it to be. That understanding alone has given me the ability to hear the meaning in someone’s words, rather than automatically shutting them out because I think they’re trying to preach to me.
I asked for strength,
and God gave me difficulties to make me strong.
I asked for wisdom,
and God gave me problems to learn to solve.
I asked for prosperity,
and God gave me a brain and brawn to work.
I asked for courage,
and God gave me dangers to overcome.
I asked for love,
and God gave me people to help.
I asked for favors,
and God gave me opportunities.
I received nothing I wanted.
I received everything I needed.
