We’re taught almost from the get-go to conform. To fit in and appeal to the masses; to live inside the box. Imagine, though, if we come to life with our own unique talents. What happens when we are constantly encouraged to repress this talent, to repress our personalities, our individual thought processes, our individuality. Soon we give up the fight and strive to fit in. We go to school and get jobs doing things we aren’t really suited for and couldn’t care less about. We learn that money and health insurance are what all decisions should be based on. We gladly enter the rat race, where other conforming entities are looking out for themselves. We become easy prey for mass marketers who make millions off of the conforming public.
What if mid-life crisis was no more then the inner conflict of conformity vs authenticity? What if it was an unavoidable discovery that we’ve become somebody we weren’t born to be? The more we see it, the more depressed we become. Who wants to live a life of conformity? More importantly, who wants to die without ever being who we were meant to be?
Conformity vs Non-Conformity. Which do you prefer?
